BREMEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
On Tuesday, June 3, 2003, the library welcomed author and motivational speaker, Jean Deeds. She is the author of "There Are Mountains To Climb" which tells the remarkable story of her trek along the Appalachian Trail.
At age 51, Jean Deeds made a remarkable decision. Although she had almost no hiking or camping experience, she would attempt to backpack the entire 2,155 miles Appalachian Trail all alone. A mother of two grown sons, Jean gave up a comfortable suburban lifestyle and successful career as director of public relations at the Indianapolis Children's Museum. She sought an adventure that would test her physical, mental and spiritual limits.
During her incredible trek, Jean spent months in the wilderness enduring rain, bugs, heat, humidity, pain, fear and loneliness. With the option always available to return home, she chose to stay and find the strength within herself to meet her challenge.
Jean's talks are a blend of humor and poignancy. She weaves her motivational messages into stories of the rigors and rewards of her wilderness trek, mixed with accounts of the fascinating and inspiring people she met along the way.
Everyone enjoyed this exciting and inspirational program.
The "Audience with an Author" series is an ongoing series funded partially from a grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation and we appreciate their support.
