Kindle Fire

OverDrive Kindle Books on the Kindle® Fire

  1. Go to Bremen Public Library's ebooks page on your Kindle Fire. www.bremen.lib.in.us/ebooks.htm
  2. Tap on the Overdrive graphic. This will take you to Indiana Digital Download Center.
  3. Tap Sign In. Choose Bremen Public Library. Enter your library card number with no spaces.
  4. You will see highlighted titles to choose or you may search for a specific title using a search box by tapping on the magnifying glass. Tapping the three horizontal lines at the top of the screen will show or hide genre selection lists.
  5. When choosing a title, look at the top right corner of the book cover. You will notice a symbol of an open book (eBooks) or headphones (audiobooks). If the symbol is black, it means the book is available for check out. If the symbol is gray, it means the title is already checked out and you may put it on hold.
  6. You can narrow your search and browsing results to show only available Kindle titles by applying filters. If your Kindle is in portrait orientation you may need to tap on the Filter search by: to see the filters. Tap on Available Now to see only those available. Tap on the Format button to show/hide the format selections. Tap on Kindle Book, if shown, to see only those titles available in the Kindle format.
  7. Once you find a title that you want, click on the book cover. A page for that book will open.
  8. If the title is available for Kindle, it will show Kindle Book under Available Formats.
  9. Your default lending period will be shown under the Borrow button. If you want to change the lending period for a book you are about to check out, you must do so before you check out the book.
  10. Click on the Borrow button to check out the book.
  11. Click on the Download button, select Kindle Book, and then click on the Confirm & Download link.
  12. Tap Get for Kindle. You will be taken to Amazon.com. You will be required to sign in with your  Amazon.com account or create one if you don’t already have one. You will also need to make sure your  Kindle Fire is registered with this Amazon account.
  13. Tap Get Library Book, which you will find on the right side of the screen. You will get a message that  your library book has been delivered to your Kindle Fire. Tap on Settings on your Kindle Fire, which is on the upper right corner next to the battery symbol. Tap Sync. Tap Home. Your book should appear in Books and be ready to read.
  14. If you chose a book that was only available via USB then you should be working from your computer at this  point and not directly from your Kindle Fire. Your Kindle should be connected to the computer via USB.
    1. Under Get Library Book choose Transfer Via Computer then click Get Library Book.
    2. You will be prompted to open or save the file.
    3. Choose Save.
    4. This will save your book to the default downloads location on your computer.
    5. Your Kindle will show up under Computer from your start menu. Copy the downloaded file to the "documents" folder of your Kindle by dragging the file.  You should now be able to read your book on your Kindle.
  15. Your book will automatically expire when it is due. If you want to return it early, you will do that from Amazon.com.
    1. If you want to return the book early, go to Amazon.com.
    2. Tap on Shop All Departments.
    3. Tap on Kindle.
    4. Tap on Manage Your Kindle.
    5. Sign in.
    6. Find the title of the book you want to return early and look to the right of that title. Tap on Actions.  
    7. Tap on Return this Book.
    8. When it asks you if you are sure, tap on Yes.
    9. Tap on Actions again.
    10. Tap on Delete from Library.
    11. When it asks if you are sure, tap on Yes.
