Bremen Public Library provides Home Delivery service to anyone in the Bremen Public Library service
area (German Township) who is unable to visit the library due to mobility impairment or disability. We
offer both long-term and short-term homebound services for residents. Home delivery is provided at no
cost to the patron. Items are delivered and picked up by library staff every 4 weeks.
Eligibility:
- Be a resident of German Township
- Have a valid library card or eligible to receive a card
- Be confined to their residence either temporarily due to illness or accident, or permanently due to health, disability, or other mobility issues
- Includes residents of nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, or private residence
- If a resident drives, he or she would not be eligible for home delivery
Materials:
- Books- regular and large print
- Magazines
- Audiobooks (CD or Playaway)
- Puzzles and activity kits
Ordering materials:
- To request specific titles or authors, call the library at 574-546-2849 or email rsoule@bremen.lib.in.us
- Complete a materials request form with favorite genres, formats or subjects
- Library staff will select materials based on your preferences from the materials request form
Dropping off/returning materials:
- Items will be placed in delivery bags with the patron’s name, address, telephone number and item pick-up date along with library information.
- Patron will be provided with an approximate delivery time.
- Staff member will drop off the bag containing library items and collect any materials that are being returned. Items should be returned in the library bag as well.
- Library items should not be left outside unattended.
- Staff members will bring items to the patron’s door but will not be able to enter the home.
- Library staff are not responsible for any other patron duties such as housekeeping, caregiving or give advice on financial, medical, or personal matters.
- Contact-free delivery is also available as long as the librarian can witness the retrieval of materials into the home.
Renewals:
- Items are automatically renewed if there are no holds on the item(s). Please call the library at 574-546-2849 to assist with the renewal process.
Fines:
- There are no fines for items overdue, but items lost or damaged while in your possession will incur replacement cost of the items.
Delivery Guidelines:
- Patrons are expected to be punctual and available at the scheduled delivery time. Proper attire is required of the patrons at delivery or pick up of library materials.
- All delivery recipients will be treated with dignity, respect, and impartiality. Likewise, library staff should also be treated with dignity and respect when making deliveries. Services may be suspended if library staff feel intimidated by patron behaviors. These behaviors include:
- threatening behavior
- obscene language
- gestures or images
- any type of harassment
- illegal activity
Bremen Public Library has the right to refuse or terminate the service to any individual who does not
meet the terms and requirements as defined above.
